Primary Wave Music has secured the rights to Peter Green’s extensive catalog of music as a founder and guitarist for the iconic British rock group Fleetwood Mac.
As reported by Billboard, the deal marks a significant milestone in the legacy of Peter Green, whose innovative songwriting and playing style played a pivotal role in shaping the band’s early days. The acquisition includes several notable tracks from Fleetwood Mac’s debut album, including “Black Magic Woman” and hits like “Oh Well.”
The story begins with Green’s time with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, where he replaced Eric Clapton on guitar. This experience not only honed his skills but also led to the formation of Fleetwood Mac with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie in 1967.
During his tenure at Fleetwood Mac, Green delivered an array of masterpieces that would define the psychedelic blues genre. These timeless classics include “Man of the World,” the instrumental epic “Albatross,” and other standout tracks like “Long Grey Mere” and “Rollin’ Man.”
Green’s creative output eventually led to his departure from Fleetwood Mac in 1970 due to mental health concerns and later a diagnosis of schizophrenia. However, this remarkable guitarist continued an illustrious solo career with the End of the Game album followed by Kolors in 1983.
After stepping away from Fleetwood Mac, Green re-emerged as the Peter Green Splinter Group in the 1990s and released several albums before his passing in 2020 at the age of 73.
