Amazon Reportedly Forms New Agentic AI Group
In a recent development, Amazon has allegedly created a new group within its AWS division dedicated to the creation of artificial intelligence (AI) agents. These agents are designed to help people automate various aspects of their lives.
According to reports from Reuters, which were based on an email sent by AWS CEO Matt Garman to staff members, the potential of agentic AI is enormous and could lead to a multi-billion dollar business for Amazon’s cloud computing division. It appears that Swami Sivasubramanian, a long-time executive at AWS who previously led its AI and data teams, will be leading this new group.
Amazon is not alone in its interest in developing AI agents, as other companies have recently joined the shift towards creating such technology. In fact, Amazon has already showcased some agentic capabilities that are set to arrive on Alexa+, an upgraded version of its consumer voice assistant. As demonstrated by these new features, Alexa+ will be capable of automating various tasks, including booking Ubers, navigating websites, and performing other functions that humans typically undertake.
Amazon’s AWS division is also exploring the possibility of creating enterprise agents, which would compete with companies like Salesforce and Microsoft in the market for AI systems designed to automate work-related tasks for their clients.
