Apple’s Emoji Game is now out for News+ subscribers in the US and Canada
As part of its commitment to providing exclusive content to its users, Apple has rolled out a brand new game for its News+ subscribers in the United States and Canada. Dubbed the “Emoji Game”, this engaging and fun experience was initially announced during WWDC earlier this year.
The Emoji Game is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, or macOS 15.4 respectively. This means that all News+ subscribers can enjoy the game, as long as their device meets the minimum system requirements.
So, what’s the game all about? In essence, it is a word-based game where players are tasked with filling in blank letters to guess words and phrases. The twist here is that instead of using standard text, players will be working with emojis to complete these phrases.
Think of it as Wordle, but instead of typing out letters, you’ll be selecting the right emoji to match the phrase. For instance, if a word like “apple” is missing from a phrase like “pineapple”, users would need to choose the relevant emoji to fill in the gap. Similarly, for phrases like “the night is young”, players can opt for the baby emoji if that’s the correct answer.
To add an extra layer of complexity and challenge, Apple has also integrated Genmoji – custom-made emojis created using its Apple Intelligence technology. Players will be able to use these special characters to fill in missing words.
Each round of the game will require users to complete three phrases. While it is possible to reveal clues hidden within the phrase, this will consume one of the player’s limited moves. News+ subscribers can access this exciting new game through the Puzzles section of the Apple News app.
Later this year, the Emoji Game will be available in a dedicated Apple Games app as well. For those interested, an Apple News+ subscription costs $13 per month and offers access to a range of digital content, including magazines, newspapers, audio stories, regional publications, daily puzzles like crosswords and sudoku, and much more.
It is worth noting that while this game has been released exclusively for News+ subscribers in the US and Canada, there are rumors that it may be rolled out to other regions as well. Only time will tell if these rumors hold any truth.
