Apple has rolled out its highly anticipated Emoji Game exclusively for its News+ subscribers in the US and Canada, just in time to coincide with World Emoji Day. As previously announced at WWDC earlier this year, the game is now available for download on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices running iOS 18.4 or later.
For those unfamiliar, the Emoji Game plays similarly to other popular word-based games like Wordle, where players must fill in the blanks with a specific set of letters to form a correct phrase. However, this game takes things to a new level by requiring players to replace missing letters with relevant emojis instead.
To illustrate, let’s say the letter “A” is missing from the phrase “pineapple.” In such a scenario, users would need to enter the emoji for an apple fruit to complete the word. For more complex phrases like “the night is young,” players could potentially use the baby emoji if it is the correct answer.
The game also incorporates Apple’s custom Genmoji, which allows players to create their own personalized emojis using the company’s advanced AI technology. With each round, participants will be tasked with completing three distinct phrases. A clue can be revealed for a small cost, but this will deplete one of the player’s limited moves.
For now, News+ subscribers can access the Emoji Game within the Puzzles section of the Apple News app. Later in the year, it is expected to become part of the upcoming dedicated Apple Games app.
It’s worth noting that an active Apple News+ subscription costs $13 per month, providing users with access to a wide range of content, including magazines and newspapers, audio stories, regional publications, daily puzzles like crosswords and sudoku, and now, this unique Emoji Game.
