Mark Zuckerberg Settles Lawsuit Over Cambridge Analytica Scandal
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly settled a shareholder lawsuit linked to the 2018 privacy scandal involving Cambridge Analytica. According to sources, the $8 billion class-action lawsuit against Zuckerberg and other Meta leaders began on Wednesday.
The lawsuit alleged that Facebook officials repeatedly violated a 2012 consent order with the Federal Trade Commission by collecting and sharing personal data without users’ consent. The company also allegedly removed disclosures from privacy settings required under the consent order.
It is not clear what terms of the settlement are or if any other Meta leaders were involved in the agreement. In an email to CBS News, Meta declined to comment on the settlement, stating that it was a suit against Zuckerberg and directors personally, not Meta Platforms.
The scandal surrounding Cambridge Analytica’s misappropriation of Facebook data led to widespread criticism of Mark Zuckerberg’s leadership and raised questions about the platform’s handling of sensitive user information.
