Mark Zuckerberg Settles Lawsuit Over Cambridge Analytica Scandal, Reports Say
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly settled a shareholder lawsuit related to the 2018 privacy scandal involving Cambridge Analytica. The $8 billion class-action lawsuit against Zuckerberg and other Meta leaders began on Wednesday, with investors claiming that the company did not fully disclose the risks of Facebook users’ personal information being misused by political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica.
The allegations in the lawsuit suggest that Facebook officials repeatedly and continually violated a 2012 consent order with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The order prohibited Facebook from collecting and sharing personal data on platform users and friends without their consent. Instead, Facebook allegedly sold user data to commercial partners and removed disclosures from privacy settings that were required under the consent order.
The settlement comes as Marc Andreessen, co-founder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and a Meta board member, was scheduled to testify in court today.
It is unclear what terms have been agreed upon in the settlement.
