Rock music legend and Oscar winner Bruce Springsteen has been announced as the inaugural recipient of the Legacy Award at the fifth annual Academy Museum Gala. Additionally, he will take to the stage for a special performance.
The prestigious award honors an artist whose body of work has inspired generations of storytellers and deeply influenced our culture. Springsteen, 75, has had a profound impact on the world of music with his iconic songs like “Born in the U.S.A.”, “Dancing in the Dark”, and many more that have become cultural touchstones.
The Legacy Award is a new addition to the Academy Museum Gala’s honors list, which recognizes outstanding contributions to film. The award ceremony will be held on October 18th in Los Angeles.
Other honorees at the event include Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, Brazilian director Walter Salles, and actor and comedian Bowen Yang. Each of these individuals has made an indelible mark on their respective craft, further solidifying the Academy Museum’s commitment to celebrating artistic mastery.
Springsteen is no stranger to Oscar success, having won an award for best original song in 1994 for “Streets of Philadelphia” from Jonathan Demme’s film. He was also a nominee two years later for “Dead Man Walkin'” from Tim Robbins’ film.
The Academy Museum Gala aims to raise funds and support various initiatives such as museum exhibitions, education programs, and public programming, which includes screenings, K-12 programs, and accessibility efforts in the local community of Los Angeles.
