Title: US House passes GENIUS stablecoin bill, awaits Trump’s signature
The United States House of Representatives has passed the GENIUS Act, a sweeping bill designed to establish a national regulatory framework for payment stablecoins. The legislation aims to provide much-needed clarity for issuers, investors, and regulators within the $264 billion stablecoin market.
In a historic vote, 308 representatives supported the measure, while 122 opposed it. The bill will now move to President Donald Trump’s desk and is expected to be signed into law as early as Friday.
The White House has already planned a signing ceremony for industry leaders and lawmakers, according to journalist Eleanor Terrett.
Despite initial plans to reconcile the GENIUS Act with the House’s stablecoin proposal, the STABLE Act, lawmakers were unable to come to an agreement under pressure from President Trump. “Get it to my desk, ASAP — NO DELAYS, NO ADD ONS,” Trump posted on Truth Social, pushing for a clean stablecoin bill without amendments or additional provisions.
The passage of this legislation marks a significant milestone in the US Congress’s efforts to establish comprehensive federal oversight of stablecoins and the broader crypto sector.
