The Daily: Dolly Parton Pens Emotional Song for Late Husband Carl Dean
Dolly Parton has penned a heartfelt song in memory of her late husband, Carl Dean. The country music legend revealed the new track during an emotional interview with ABC News.
Entitled “If You Hadn’t Been There,” the song is a poignant tribute to Dean’s unwavering support and love throughout their 56-year marriage. Parton, 76, tearfully recalled the many ways in which her husband had been by her side, from supporting her music career to being her rock during times of crisis.
The lyrics read: “If you hadn’t been there for me / I wouldn’t be here today / You kept me grounded when my feet got too high / You helped me navigate life.”
Parton shared that she was inspired to write the song after Dean’s passing in March 2022. She explained, “I thought it would be a good way for me to process my grief and honor his memory.”
