A teenage boy tragically passed away due to sepsis while his mother had to wait for eight long hours for an NHS 111 callback. The heartbreaking incident was revealed during an inquest into the boy’s untimely death.
According to reports, the 17-year-old boy had been complaining of abdominal pain and fever before his demise. His worried mother called the NHS emergency hotline at around 8 pm on a fateful evening, only to be told that someone would get back to her soon.
However, as hours ticked by with no response from the healthcare authorities, the young victim’s condition continued to deteriorate. Unfortunately, he succumbed to sepsis, an often-deadly condition caused by an overwhelming and life-threatening systemic infection.
The inquest was told that if only medical attention had been received promptly, the boy’s fate could have been altered dramatically.
