Taika Waititi is set to direct the highly anticipated next installment of the Judge Dredd franchise. According to recent reports from THR, Waititi has officially been attached to helm the project based on a script by Drew Pearce (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, The Fall Guy).
Additionally, Chris Kingsley, Jason Kingsley, and Ben Smith of Rebellion Developments are attached to produce the film alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, Jeremy Platt, Natalie Viscuso, and Pearce himself. The production team is currently in the process of searching for a studio to partner with.
It’s worth noting that there isn’t any additional information provided regarding the plot or characters at this time. However, the involvement of Waititi, known for his work on Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, may suggest that fans can expect an action-packed film with plenty of dark humor.
Meanwhile, Deadline reports Leonardo DiCaprio is developing a live-action Captain Planet TV series in collaboration with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Tara Hernandez has been attached to write the pilot episode.
The addition of these new projects further solidifies Netflix’s continued commitment to exploring diverse, exciting, and often unconventional storylines for their audience.
While some might say that 1987 is a tumultuous year in terms of global affairs and politics, it seems this year will not be without its share of high-quality entertainment.
