Bluesky now lets users upload videos that are up to 3 minutes long
Bluesky has announced that it is expanding its video upload limit to allow users to share content for up to 3 minutes in length, a significant increase from the previous 60-second time limit. This change brings the platform more in line with competitors X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s Threads, both of which offer longer video sharing capabilities.
The expanded video upload limit is also welcome news for apps such as Bluescreen and Skylight that are working to bring a video-first experience to the platform. These developers can now build upon this feature to create TikTok-like alternatives, which align more closely with popular short-form video app TikTok’s 10-minute video sharing capabilities.
In addition to this update, Bluesky has also rolled out several other new features. Users can now sift through direct message requests from unknown individuals on a dedicated “Chat requests” screen, giving them greater control over their online interactions. The platform has also streamlined its moderation reporting process and improved tablet-sized layouts for the web.
The video upload limit increase is likely to have significant implications for Bluesky’s user base and the broader social media landscape. With this change, Bluesky is now better positioned to compete with other major social networks and offer users a more comprehensive and engaging experience.
