Nintendo Launches Another Switch Online Test Program for 40,000 Players
In a move to expand its testing scope, Nintendo has announced the launch of another Playtest Program, seeking participation from 40,000 users. This significant increase in the number of testers marks a departure from the company’s previous attempt, which only accepted 10,000 participants.
The new program is exclusively available for active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members and supports both the original Switch and the recently released Switch 2. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have their Nintendo accounts registered in one of nine designated regions: Japan, United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, or Mexico.
Individuals can apply for the program on their own or form groups of up to four people. Notably, data sharing between group members will be partial, indicating that Nintendo aims to analyze collaboration and social dynamics in a shared gaming environment.
The selection process will operate on a different approach than before. Japanese participants will be chosen through a random draw, while applicants from other regions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The application window is set to open on July 18 at 6PM Eastern and close on July 21 at 11AM Eastern.
While Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the specifics of the program’s objectives, it did confirm that the test will involve evaluating the same service as was previously tested in October 2024. Rumors suggest that this may be related to a Minecraft-like game where players build structures using blocks, allowing for social interaction and co-op gameplay.
We can expect more information on this topic once Nintendo formally announces their findings or any potential changes to their services.
