Ditto Lands $82 Million to Synchronize Data from Edge to Cloud
Edge computing pioneer Ditto has secured a whopping $82 million in Series B funding to further develop its platform for synchronizing data between edge devices and the cloud.
The startup, which emerged from stealth just over a year ago, is addressing a crucial issue in the industry: ensuring seamless communication between decentralized edge devices and centralized cloud systems. According to Ditto’s CEO, James Fish, this is a critical challenge that can no longer be ignored.
“It’s all about creating resilient software infrastructure where bottlenecks or bandwidth issues don’t impede a company’s ability to operate,” Fish explained in an interview with TechCrunch. “We’re not saying the cloud and centralized systems aren’t important – they are. But Ditto is focused on providing the edge-to-cloud synchronization that’s necessary for real-time data processing and low latency.”
The fresh injection of capital will be used to grow the company’s team and scale its core product, as well as forge partnerships with major cloud database vendors like MongoDB (which it has already partnered with). This move aims to further accelerate Ditto’s vision of becoming a go-to platform for edge computing.
“We’re not looking at the cloud or centralized systems as a bottleneck,” Fish emphasized. “Our vision is that Ditto becomes the de facto company and platform you turn to when thinking about ‘edge’.”
Ditto’s unique approach lies in its ability to provide synchronization between decentralized edge devices and cloud storage, ensuring business continuity even if critical infrastructure fails. This capability has significant implications for industries that rely on real-time data processing and low latency, such as AI-driven applications.
As AI becomes increasingly entrenched in society, Ditto sees an opportunity to capitalize on the growth of edge computing, which will be essential for many AI-powered systems.
“There are massive tailwinds to edge computing, especially with the rise of AI,” Fish noted. “Running models at the edge not only adds resilience, but also improves privacy and lowers costs too.”
The new investment marks a significant milestone for Ditto as it expands its offerings and solidifies its position in the emerging edge computing landscape.
The Series B round was led by Top Tier Capital Partners and Acrew Capital, with participation from Advance Venture Partners, Amity Ventures, Friends and Family Capital, Fundrise, Innovative Technology Fund (USIT), Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ), and True Ventures.
