Disco Elysium is Coming to Android Mobile This Summer
ZA/UM’s critically acclaimed RPG is reimagined for “the TikTok user” in a new format.
It has been announced that Disco Elysium, the highly-acclaimed role-playing game from 2019, will be available on Android devices later this year. The mobile version of the game is expected to launch in summer 2025 and offers a fresh take on the traditional RPG experience.
According to ZA/UM, the company behind the game, the new format appears to resemble a visual novel app rather than a traditional RPG. Players will be able to access the first two chapters for free before having the option to purchase the full, ad-free game with a single payment.
The goal of this reimagined version is to create “quick hits of compelling story, art, and audio” that will captivate users familiar with platforms like TikTok. ZA/UM’s studio head, Denis Havel, emphasized this approach in his statement, stating, “We intend to captivate the TikTok user… ultimately creating an all new, deeply engaging form of entertainment.”
It is worth noting that not all original creators are involved with the development of this mobile version. In 2022, several key members of the original Disco Elysium team were terminated by ZA/UM’s new leadership, including Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov, and Helen Hindpere. Following their departures, lawsuits have been filed among the parties involved.
Despite these circumstances, it appears that ZA/UM is moving forward with the development of this new game, as well as a separate title. New studios have emerged from former team members, further solidifying the legacy of Disco Elysium’s engaging narrative and immersive gameplay.
