BlackRock’s BUIDL Breaks $1 Billion On-Chain Fund Barrier
On March 14, 2025, BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has made a groundbreaking achievement with its BUIDL fund, surpassing the $1 billion mark in assets under management. This monumental milestone marks a significant shift towards tokenized assets and decentralized finance (DeFi) as institutional investors increasingly turn to blockchain-based solutions.
The BUIDL fund’s success is largely attributed to a strategic partnership with Securitize, a leading platform for tokenized securities. Notably, this development has been fueled by a substantial $200 million investment from the cryptocurrency entity Ethena. According to Robert Mitchnick, Head of Digital Assets at BlackRock, “This milestone underscores our dedication to developing innovative solutions in the digital assets space that address real-world problems for our clients. We are excited to collaborate with Securitize and explore new avenues in the sector.”
The $1 billion barrier represents a remarkable 25% market share within the tokenized Treasury sector, which now accounts for $4.2 billion. This significant growth is expected to continue as institutional investors seek blockchain-based solutions, further solidifying BlackRock’s position at the forefront of innovation.
Ethena’s founder, in a statement, expressed confidence in the potential of tokenized assets and their ability to transform the financial landscape. Experts predict that this development will accelerate the integration of decentralized finance into traditional markets.
Historically, we’ve seen legacy finance entities embracing blockchain-based innovations, including the rise of Hashnote’s USYC as the leading tokenized money market. BlackRock’s BUIDL fund now sets a new standard for tokenized assets, further validating the viability and appeal of this model.
The achievement aligns with the long-standing trend of traditional finance embracing decentralized technologies to expand their asset management strategies.
