Italian Crypto Trader Tortured in NYC: Suspects Get $1M Bail Each
A gruesome kidnapping and torture case has unfolded in New York City, with two suspects facing charges of coercion, assault, and kidnapping. The shocking incident involves an Italian cryptocurrency trader who was held captive for over two weeks.
According to reports, the 28-year-old victim was lured by the suspects to a townhouse on May 6th. Woeltz and Duplessie, aged 37 and 33 respectively, allegedly subjected him to extreme torture methods, including the use of a chainsaw, cattle prod, electric shocks, beatings, and setting the victim ablaze with tequila.
The horrific ordeal only came to an end when one of the suspects left their laptop unlocked, allowing the victim to escape on May 23rd. The victim managed to reach a traffic officer for help, leading to the swift arrest of both Woeltz and Duplessie.
In a surprising turn of events, the defendants have been granted $1 million bail each by New York Supreme Court Judge Gregory Carro. The judge acknowledged inconsistencies in video evidence but stated that there was sufficient reason to allow the suspects to post bail under strict conditions.
Under the terms of their release, Woeltz and Duplessie must surrender their passports, wear GPS monitors, and remain confined to their homes in New York and Florida. Furthermore, they are not permitted to use cryptocurrency as a means to secure their bond.
A disturbing aspect of this case is that investigators discovered a manifesto on one of the suspects’ Kentucky cabin outlining plans to target foreign cryptocurrency holders through deception and violence. The motives behind this heinous crime are still unclear, leaving many questions unanswered.
Both Woeltz and Duplessie have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them and will appear in court again on October 15th.
