Fono Partners with Desierto Bravo to ‘Seek Out Talent from its Origin’
In a groundbreaking move, Fono, the regional Mexican-focused label under Universal Music, has announced a partnership with Desierto Bravo, an independent record label and production platform dedicated to nurturing new talent from northwestern Mexico.
According to sources close to the deal, the collaboration aims at providing international exposure to emerging artists signed during the first phase of the partnership. The move is seen as a significant step in fostering local talent and promoting regional Mexican music globally.
Under the agreement, Fono will dedicate a new division within their organization to work closely with Desierto Bravo’s roster of young acts. This strategic alliance aims at discovering fresh voices from the region, which has been gaining notoriety for its vibrant music scene.
The partnership has already seen the signing of notable artists, including 22-year-old Plazencia and El NiƱo de Sonora, who gained international recognition through their successful collaboration with Adriel Favela on “Sin Plan B”.
In a statement, Jorge Loayzat, A&R director for both Fono MX & US, emphasized the importance of this partnership. “We are thrilled to be working alongside Desierto Bravo to find and develop talent from its origins,” he said.
The alliance also includes initiatives such as free guitar workshops aimed at providing aspiring musicians with solid foundations, as well as an invitation for songwriters to submit their compositions for potential future productions.
Furthermore, the partnership has opened submissions for Mexa Indie, a forthcoming album featuring selected artists.
