Atsuko Okatsuka is a comedic force to be reckoned with, and it seems that audiences are just as blown away by her talent. The Taiwanese-Japanese comedian has announced the addition of new dates to her upcoming Big Bowl Tour due to overwhelming demand for her hilarious show.
Okatsuka’s latest Hulu special, Atsuko Okatsuka: Father, debuted in June and has been making waves ever since. The comedy series offers a unique glimpse into the comedian’s life experiences, tackling themes of family and relationships. While these themes may not be typical of your average stand-up special, it’s clear that fans are hung up on her unapologetic humor.
Born in Taiwan and raised in Japan, Okatsuka’s life has been marked by adversity. Her parents divorced when she was young, with custody awarded to her father. However, her grandmother took matters into her own hands and brought Atsuko to the United States to live with her mother.
In her first comedy special, Intruder, which aired on HBO in 2022, Okatsuka shed light on her experiences with her mother’s schizophrenia diagnosis and her relationship with her grandmother. It’s no surprise that audiences are clamoring for more of her side-splitting humor, as she has proven to be a master of her craft.
To satisfy this demand, Okatsuka will be bringing her Big Bowl Tour to four cities: The Masonic in San Francisco on September 26th, Newmark Theater in Portland, Oregon on the 28th, Beacon Theatre in New York on October 19th, and Meridian Hall in Toronto, Ontario on November 9th.
