AI-Related Job Postings Soar as Demand Grows Across Industries
The recent surge in AI-related job postings has left many wondering what these new roles entail and how they can be accessed. According to a report from Brookings Institution, AI-themed job posts have experienced an astonishing 100% increase over the past year alone, with a 29% annual growth rate over the last 15 years. This phenomenon is not limited to tech hubs like Silicon Valley, as it has also started to diffuse into other regions such as the Sunbelt and along the East Coast.
As AI adoption accelerates across industries, job seekers are beginning to grasp the vast array of opportunities available in this space. According to Elena Magrini, global head of research at Lightcast, AI skills have become increasingly sought-after across various sectors including marketing, human resources, and finance. In fact, an astonishing 55% of job postings requesting AI skills in 2024 were outside traditional IT and computer science roles.
Some of the most in-demand roles are being filled by professionals with expertise in areas like generative AI, consulting, and responsible AI practices. For instance, there is a growing need for AI engineers, software developers, and management positions that focus on integrating AI into business operations.
Interestingly, these AI-related job postings tend to be associated with higher salaries compared to similar roles without AI requirements. According to Lightcast data, jobs mentioning AI skills pay approximately 28%, or $18,000, more per year than those that don’t require AI expertise.
While the majority of these opportunities can be found in tech giants such as Amazon, Meta, Apple, and Google, there are other companies like OpenAI also hiring AI professionals.
