A California man who was previously released on bond after attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend has been arrested and charged with kidnapping a 89-year-old South Carolina woman.
According to reports, Enver Marius Zueros, 34, of California, was taken into custody by the Summerville Police Department in relation to the incident. The suspect allegedly broke into an elderly woman’s home, where he was later found by a retired law enforcement officer who became suspicious and rang the doorbell.
The neighbor reportedly asked Zueros for his name, but he provided a fake one. He claimed that the victim was hospitalized after falling in the shower, which only fueled the neighbor’s concerns. The neighbor then went to get his gun, prompting Zueros to flee the scene in the woman’s vehicle with her restrained underneath the rear seats.
Zueros was later arrested and charged with kidnapping. The 89-year-old victim sustained minor injuries but is reportedly recovering well.
This incident has sparked a heated debate over California’s lenient criminal justice policies and their potential impact on other states. U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) took to social media to scold California Gov. Gavin Newsom, urging him to take action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“@GavinNewsom, keep your criminal scum out of South Carolina,” Mace wrote. “This traveling tr*nny and attempted murderer from your state brutalized a constituent of mine. Come get it.”
Mace later followed up with another post, highlighting the potential consequences of California’s policies on other states: “California policies affecting our state. This guy was out on bond for attempted murder…!”
It remains to be seen how this incident will unfold and whether Zueros’ arrest will prompt further discussion about the need for stricter criminal justice policies in California.
