SEC Delays Truth Social Bitcoin ETF and Grayscale Solana Trust Decisions
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced delays in its decisions regarding the Truth Social Bitcoin ETF, Grayscale Solana Trust, and Litecoin ETF. The SEC’s review timeline for these proposals has been extended, with new deadlines set for September 18 and October 10.
This decision is seen as a result of the commission’s cautious approach to cryptocurrency-related exchange-traded funds (ETFs). In a recent Bloomberg interview, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce emphasized the need for patience in reviewing crypto ETF applications. According to her statement, ongoing litigation and other considerations have contributed to this delay.
Despite these delays, the current timelines are shorter compared to historical cases. The approval of the first spot Bitcoin ETF took over 10 years from the initial application, which highlights the progress made in recent times.
The delayed decisions come amidst growing scrutiny surrounding the Truth Social Bitcoin ETF due to its connections to US President Donald Trump’s business interests. There are concerns that any regulatory actions taken by the SEC could have personal benefits for the sitting president. However, it is essential to note that there have been no objections issued by the SEC regarding this proposal.
Furthermore, the delay raises questions about Trump’s role in crypto regulation and policies. In recent weeks, he has signed legislation and directives impacting crypto markets while serving as the US President. On July 18, 2025, he authorized the GENIUS Act, establishing a regulatory framework for stablecoins. Additionally, his appointee at the Federal Housing Finance Administration (FHFA) issued instructions for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to develop proposals allowing unconverted crypto holdings to qualify as assets for single-family mortgage underwriting without conversion to US dollars.
In light of these developments, the SEC has chosen to take a careful approach in reviewing the Truth Social Bitcoin ETF.
