Kid Cudi Reflects on Near-Fatal Drug Overdose & Suicidal Thoughts: ‘I Was Not Planning to Live’
Rapper, singer-songwriter and actor Kid Cudi has long been open about his struggles with drug addiction and suicidal thoughts. In an excerpt from his upcoming memoir, The Memoir, set to be released on August 12, he reflects on a near-fatal drug overdose and the depths of despair he sank to during this dark period.
In the excerpt, Cudi recounts a moment when he was on the verge of overdosing due to his cocaine use. He writes that he collapsed onto the floor after realizing that he had been using more drugs than ever before, including an excessive amount of cocaine, and losing all sense of what was real. The rapper admits to feeling utterly hopeless during this time, with a strong desire to end his life.
During these sessions for his album Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven in 2015, Cudi had also been Googling ways to commit suicide. He writes that he had intended his album’s final track as a farewell message to fans before ending his own life.
