MF Doom Estate Sues Temu for Selling Knock-Off Merch: ‘One of the Most Unethical Companies’
The estate of late rapper MF Doom has taken legal action against Chinese e-commerce giant Temu, claiming that it is selling counterfeit merchandise bearing his name and iconic mask design. The lawsuit alleges that Temu’s actions devalue MF Doom’s trademarks and “status in the hip-hop milieu.”
According to court documents, Gas Drawls LLC, the company managing MF Doom’s estate since his sudden death in 2020, claims that Temu has been selling multiple items featuring the rapper’s name and imagery without permission. The list of allegedly counterfeit goods includes t-shirts, hats, posters, and other merchandise.
The lawsuit states that these unauthorized products are sold at a significantly lower price point than official MF Doom merchandise available on his official store, which supports his family and the continuation of his legacy. Additionally, Gas Drawls argues that Temu’s marketplace also features products with offensive language and gang-related symbols, further tarnishing MF Doom’s reputation.
The lawsuit accuses Temu of “unfair competition” and seeks a court injunction to compel the company to cease selling knock-off merchandise. The estate is also seeking financial compensation for alleged damages caused by Temu’s actions.
Gas Drawls labels Temu as “one of the most unethical companies operating in today’s global marketplace,” citing allegations of egregious business practices, including reliance on forced labor and repeated violations of users’ privacy.
It remains unclear how this lawsuit will unfold.
