OpenAI Brings Its AI-Powered Web Search Tool to More ChatGPT Users
OpenAI has expanded access to its AI-powered web search tool, ChatGPT Search, to all ChatGPT users. The feature was initially only available to premium subscribers, but it’s now live for the entire user base.
As of today, ChatGPT will automatically determine which questions to route through ChatGPT Search, or users can opt to tap a new “Search the web” icon in the interface. This allows users to see summarized answers from various online sources, along with “rich” content such as embedded photos and YouTube videos.
The feature, powered by OpenAI’s fine-tuned GPT-4o model, retrieves information from the web, including sports scores, news updates, stock quotes, and more. Users can then engage in follow-up conversations to refine their search queries.
Previously available only to paid subscribers, ChatGPT Search is now accessible for all users.
