New York City Mayor-Elect Vows to Arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
In a bold move, New York City’s newly elected mayor Zohran Mamdani has reiterated his commitment to arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he visit the city. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in 2024, accusing him of intentionally attacking civilians and using starvation as a method of warfare.
Mamdani, who won the election by a landslide victory, emphasized that his administration will uphold international law and respect ICC warrants, regardless of any political backlash. He made these remarks during a live appearance on ABC7, where he reaffirmed his stance on the matter.
“I’ve said time and again that I believe this is a city of international law, and being a city of international law means looking to uphold international law,” Mamdani declared. “And that means upholding the warrants from the International Criminal Court, whether they’re for Benjamin Netanyahu or Vladimir Putin.”
Mamdani’s decision to stand firm on his pledge has sent shockwaves throughout the political sphere. His comments come as a surprise, considering the United States is not a signatory to the ICC treaty.
In related news, outgoing Mayor Eric Adams met with Netanyahu earlier this week and encouraged him to attend Mamdani’s upcoming inauguration ceremony.
