ChatGPT’s AI Search Engine Rolls Out to Everyone
OpenAI has announced the rollout of its AI-powered search engine, ChatGPT, to all users starting today. This follows a previous release of the feature for paid subscribers in October.
The new search engine will now be available at the free tier, but users must have an account and be logged in to access it. While some may see this as a major step forward in AI-powered searching capabilities, others may be more skeptical about the potential implications on existing search engines.
One of the key improvements made by OpenAI for mobile search is the ability to provide more traditional-like results. When searching for specific locations, such as restaurants or local attractions, users will now see a list of results with images, ratings, and hours. Clicking on a location will pull up further information about the spot, and users can also view a map with directions from within the app.
Another update includes faster search times when looking for certain types of websites, such as hotel booking platforms. Instead of immediately generating a response, ChatGPT will surface links to relevant websites before providing more in-depth information on each option.
Additionally, OpenAI has announced the ability to automatically provide up-to-date information from the web using Advanced Voice Mode – although this feature is only available to paid subscribers.
