Meta has announced the end of its fact-checking program, a move that comes alongside Mark Zuckerberg’s vow to prioritize restoring free expression on Facebook and Instagram.
Zuckerberg made these remarks in an interview with Fox News Digital, emphasizing that the company is shifting gears to focus on promoting free speech and personalization. The decision to discontinue the fact-checking program was reportedly met with approval from Trump administration officials.
According to Zuckerberg’s statements, Meta aims to “refocus” its enforcement efforts towards illegal and high-severity violations, while also introducing a more personalized approach to political content. Users who wish to see more posts related to politics can now opt-in to do so.
“We have a real opportunity now,” said Campbell Brown, Facebook’s Head of Global Affairs and Communications, referring to the upcoming Trump administration.
Kaplan also highlighted Meta’s eagerness to work with the incoming government, stating that they are excited to collaborate on “promoting American business and America’s technological edge.”
